It’s morning in the Airstream. My last cup of herbal tea while I am here WWOOFing on this lavender farm is steeping. I’ll do my Vinyasa yoga flow in the lavender field and then ride my bike to Cloudland Canyon State Park again, as I did last Sunday. I plan to hike down to the other waterfall this time, all 600 steps of it. I’ll most likely pet horses along the way and stop at Dollar General one last time, although I need nothing. I’ve been dodging dogs on each daily bike ride, so there is sure to be more of that.

Later I’ll hang a hammock in the hemlocks and then finish up what I have in the fridge, pack my backpack, clean the Airstream, and get one more night’s excellent sleep. Tomorrow, I’m on the road again.

It was a stunning WWOOF visit these past two weeks here at Lookout Lavender Farm, with hosts Alice and Bill and part-time farm employee Taylor. They are all truly amazing, interesting, kind people and they treated me like a cherished part of the team. I got to witness and assist in all stages of lavender purchase, planting, pruning, packaging, and promoting. I know my hidcote from my grosso.

(The bloom here isn’t until June — I’m sorry to miss it but have already been part of the harvesting and drying process at a lavender/llama ranch in the High Desert of California during my Round America with a Duck journey — see chapter 8 in my book. Also, Alice took me with her literally everywhere, including three additional farms, a gardening expo where we had a booth, a gardening club presentation and plant sale, a farmer’s market, and for three lovely lunches — in Georgia, Tennessee and Alabama!

I have one more WWOOF stay planned in the USA this year —in just a couple of weeks! And wouldn’t you know it, right as I finished writing my new aspirational obituary (which included living in a castle), another WWOOF host in Ireland just approved my visit (for the fall). In a castle.

Join me by following along here and at the hashtag on Instagram and Twitter. If you have a book club and would like to schedule me for a Q & A, I’m loving it (contact here). In fact, I have an exciting book club appearance this upcoming week!

Plus, if you are in the Metro Atlanta area, pop in to the cute, new Scholar and Scribe bookstore in the movie-making haven of Trilith for Independent Bookstore Day Saturday, April 27th. There’s a full day of activities, and I’m scheduled for a meet-and-greet/book signing at 4 pm.

As always, trust the journey.
